Korean public holidays are set by law, and lunar holidays move every year. The government publishes the official calendar for each year in the Official Gazette. Two changes in 2026 matter: Labour Day (1 May) became a public holiday, and so did all national days, which brings back Constitution Day (17 July).

What to expect around Seollal and Chuseok
The two big lunar holidays are three-day breaks when many people travel to their home towns. Plan transport and accommodation early if your trip overlaps them. The law sets public holidays for government offices and leaves working days in private businesses to employment law, so whether a particular shop or restaurant opens is up to that business — check before you go.
The government can declare extra one-off holidays by Cabinet decision, sometimes at short notice. We will update this page if one is announced for 2027.

More about K-ETA
After you land
K-ETA gets you on the plane. What comes after — arrival card, e-gates, cash, tax refunds, transport, healthcare, emergencies — checked with official sources.
Transport cards
One prepaid card works on almost all public transport. Many buses take no cash, and since 1 October 2026 Seoul's Climate Card passes cover Seoul only.
How long you can stay
A K-ETA does not set your permitted stay. The number comes from the visa-waiver arrangement with your country, and it ranges from 30 to 90 days.
Driving in Korea
A foreign licence alone is not enough. Visitors drive on an International Driving Permit for one year from entry. Drive on the right; alcohol limit 0.03%.
Healthcare
Tourists are not covered by Korea's national health insurance. Where to get treatment with an interpreter, which number to call, and why insurance matters.
Emergency numbers
112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Which lines offer interpretation, the Emergency Ready App, and the English text alerts on your phone.
